EU Sixth Framework

EU 6th Framework Programme

The NCLA has a strong tradition in collaborative research and we are happy to continue that tradition within the EU 6th Framework Programme.

The Centre specialises in the development of laser-based materials processing applications (surface modification, marking, welding, cutting and drilling), laser and optics-based materials analysis (spectroscopy, surface characterisation), and process control (real-time machine vision). Our facilities include laser laboratories equipped with Femto-second and excimer high-precision machining, CO2, Nd:YAG and high-power diode laser materials processing, argon-ion and Dye lasers, as well as high-power UV light sources. Materials of interest include polymers, metals, ceramics, composite materials and glass.

We also have a materials characterisation facilities including spectroscopy laboratories for Raman and Photoluminescence studies of advanced pharmaceuticals, structural and semiconductor materials and facilities for the quantitative characterisation of sample form, roughness, colour and contrast using machine vision, surface profilometry and AFM.

We are also interested in participating in bilateral and collaborative research and in developing links with strategic partners in key technology areas. If you feel that the NCLA can be of assistance, as part of a consortium, or in any area of product/ process development, in the framework of collaborative research, please contact us.

Marie Curie Programme
The NCLA welcomes contact from individuals who wish to pursue research at the Centre as part of a Marie Curie human mobility grant, within either the Early Stage Training (post-graduate), Transfer of Knowledge (post-doc) or Research Training Networks programmes.
